Digicol range products are digital adhesives for the application of grits, granulates, flakes and powders that guarantee a strong, lasting bond.  They offer numerous advantages compared to traditional products:

  • Greater uniformity of the decorated surface;
  • Creation of special high-definition graphics (full-field designs, small details, gradient effects, textures, floral and geometric designs);
  • Significant reduction in grit consumption;
  • The possibility of producing polished and honed materials without applying excessive quantities of water to the ceramic body.

Recent research has led to the development of eco-inorganic and water-based inorganic glues specifically formulated for lower odorous emissions and reduced content of aldehydic components deriving from combustion.

Smaltochimica has always been attentive to the environmental impact of its products and claims to be the only chemical company in the ceramic sector to be certified to UNI EN ISO 14001:2015.

About Smaltochimica

In recent years, Smaltochimica has completely renewed its portfolio of chemical additives for the ceramic industry with the aim of optimising production processes that have changed dramatically due to the growth of digital technologies.

The company, which already has ISO 14000 certification, has based its technical and commercial strategy on research into green products following the 2012 launch of its range of Nature eco-friendly additives. In particular, it has focused on solving issues of environmental pollution deriving from kiln emissions during firing. Amongst its most important products in recent years are the Digicol solvent- and water-based digital glues, a segment where Smaltochimica is the market leader. These glues are used by numerous ceramic companies and are popular for their ease of application and for their low environmental impact in terms of odorous and CO2 emissions.

The new lines of green products reflect Smaltochimica’s innovative capacity and the fact that even in a period of major change it has succeeded in maintaining the technical expertise and professionalism acquired over more than 40 years of operation in the Italian ceramic industry and in international markets. This development is also reflected in the recent restyling of the brand, which maintains the historic red flask symbol to emphasise the company’s links with the past while opting for a more modern and contemporary graphic style.

About diaryofatileaddict

I have been writing about the tile industry for more than 25 years. I have started this blog to share some of my knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, ceramic tiles. I also wanted to shine a light on the work of some of the artists, architects and designers around the world who work with ceramic tiles. I was the Founding Editor of Tile UK, and I am currently the Editor of three tile-related publications in the UK: Tile & Stone Journal, The Specifier’s Guide to Ceramic Tile & Calibrated Natural Stone; and TDY: Tile Design Yearbook. I am also International Correspondent for Tile Today and Discovering Stone, both published in Australia. My aim with Diary of a Tile Addict is to introduce tile enthusiasts to developments in tile design, significant architectural and interior design projects that get the best out of tiles, technological developments that are driving the ceramic tile sector forward, and breaking news from tile exhibitions around the world. I will also introduce readers to some of the talented and inspiring individuals who help make the ceramic tile world so creatively diverse, technically advanced and intellectually fascinating.
